I moved home from New Zealand just over a year ago and was shocked at the number of insurance companies that flat out refused to quote me…In contrast, the staff at KennCo were both professional and practical when discussing my situation. I was provided a solution which, although expensive, allowed me to get on with life and work in Ireland. I was pleasantly surprised at the much improved renewal quote I received this year and was happy to sign on for another year.

Just a brief note to say thank you for all the assistance you gave me recently in relation to my daughter’s car. You were most helpful and efficient and we really appreciate the effort you put in dealing with our case.

I wish there were more like minded people out there in companies such as yours.

Ring KennCo as soon as you can to inform them of the accident, even if you are not at fault. By telling us early, you will provide accurate information regarding the accident while you have a clear memory of what happened. You can make claims years after an accident has occurred, so it is better to have the details on record as early as possible. KennCo’s claim number is 01 409 2600 (select option 4) or for Out of Hours contact 01 2735195.

Yes. You can decrease the cost of your insurance by increasing your policy excess. This means that if you make a claim on your policy you will have to pay the excess amount. For example, if you had an excess of €500, you have agreed to pay the first €500 in the event of a claim.

Yes. We calculate insurance premiums based on risk, and there is more risk that you will have a motor-related claim the longer and more frequently you drive the car.

Yes. More expensive cars tend to cost more money to fix or replace. For this reason, if you have an expensive car, you will have to pay more for insurance. KennCo specialize in high value vehicles with very competitive quotes online or over the phone with our agents.

Yes. Insurance companies rate cars between 1-50, depending on the risk involved. Vehicles at the lower side of the scale tend to have cheaper insurance. Most cars with lower-powered engines have more affordable insurance.

It is more expensive to insure learner drivers as they have little experience on the road. The sooner you pass your driving test, the better because your car insurance premium will decrease the longer you hold a full license.

There are several ways to reduce your car insurance premiums as a young driver. KennCo take named driver experience into account when you apply for your first insurance policy in your own name. This essentially means that if you have been driving under a parent’s policy without claims, they will reward you for your excellent driving history.

KennCo consider all driving experience, from EDT driving lessons to named driving experience, including where they may have been a gap in cover. It is important you give all driving history information to allow us to review and allow the maximum possible discounts.

A modification is any change you make to your vehicle that alters it from the manufacturer’s standard settings. You must inform us of these changes. Examples of modifications include exhaust upgrades and body kits. If you don’t declare modifications, we may invalidate your cover.

Insurance is based on the risk of the driver. It costs more because statistically, young drivers are more likely to be involved in a car accident than drivers over 25. Young driver car insurance should decrease with every year of a no claims bonus.

If you are a named driver on someone else’s policy, such as your parents, we will consider this when quoting for your insurance. You will qualify for a discount if you are claims free for 1 year or more.

Fronting is when you own a car, but the vehicle is insured in your parents’ name, where you may be a named driver. Fronting’s done to make the policy cheaper for the actual main driver who is younger. Fronting is illegal, and if caught, you could be prosecuted, and it can also cause your insurance to be invalid.

Yes, we offer our customers the option to pay monthly through a finance agreement. You will be required to pay 30% of your premium as a deposit. The remainder of your payments will consist of 9 monthly payments. You can avail of our monthly payment option when purchasing a new policy or renewing your policy. If you miss a monthly payment or a payment fails, KennCo give you 7 days to pay over the phone. Please note that you will be entering into a credit agreement with Close Brothers Premium.

Yes. It is a legal requirement to have car insurance. The minimum level required is Third Party Only, which covers you in a car accident that was your fault, and it only covers the cost of damage to the other car, not yours. Comprehensive cover provides cover for the cars involved in the accident and damage or injury to third parties involved in the accident, if you are at fault for an accident.

This is illegal and you could incur up to four penalty points and a fine of up to €120 as well as having your vehicle impounded. If the vehicle is not owned by you, the learner driver, the owner of the vehicle could be fined and the vehicle also impounded.

No. By law, you cannot drive a car on your own if you hold a provisional Irish licence/ learner permit. You must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver who has a full license for at least two years. Legislation introduced in 2018 results in the vehicle being impounded in addition to penalty points and a fine. If the vehicle is not owned by the learner driver, the vehicle may be impounded and the owner fined up to €1,000.

With car insurance, you’re considered a young driver between the ages of 18-24. The insurance cost is much higher until you’re 25 when it’s then cheaper to get car insurance. KennCo insure young drivers of 19 years old and over. If you are 18 years old we may be able to insure you as a named driver on a policy with an experienced driver. Young driver quotes are available through our online quote form or by calling 014092600.
